about
Mawpit shed their abrasive exterior and reveal a brighter side in the form of their third single ‘Cittàgazze’, a grunge-drenched love song inspired by the storyline from ‘His Dark Materials’ by Philip Pullman. Opening with an ethereal guitar riff and captivating atmosphere, the song lures you in and takes you on a whimsical adventure.
It follows the story of Lyra and Will as they meet in the seaside city of Cittàgazze, fall in love only to then be separated in alternate universes. Singer / lyricist Cait found inspiration from the lovers' promise to meet in a botanic garden to feel close to one another. She recreated the feeling of grief with the chorus lyrics, pleading ‘Our love’s a ghost, I hold it close, I feel it start to fade. Sit next to me just out of reach, I wish you could have stayed’.
lyrics
Years ago we crossed paths on a haunted beach.
On the run, we were fearless in my memory.
I close my eyes I can picture your face,
And there’s so much I long to say.
Please don’t leave, ah
Stay with me, ah
Our love’s a ghost, I hold it close,
I feel it start to fade.
Sit next to me, just out of reach,
I wish you could have stayed.
In the garden we meet on a summers eve.
Let’s reminisce all the things that we used to be.
I feel you’re close yet your miles and miles away,
And there’s so much I long to say.
Please don’t leave, ah
Stay with me, ah
Our love’s a ghost, I hold it close,
I feel it start to fade.
Sit next to me, just out of reach,
I wish you could have stayed.
Innocent touch, our golden love,
The fallen dust, let’s open up the door again.
Please don’t leave, ah
Stay with me, ah
Our love’s a ghost, I hold it close,
I feel it start to fade.
Sit next to me, just out of reach,
I wish you could have stayed.
I wish you could have stayed.
